I will be in Plano next month so I will have to check them out.

Oh and great rant. I have two game stores close to my house. One smells a little more than the other. Both are comic book stores that also have games. If my comic shop can offer me 25% off everything including games I order through previews (including Heroscape) then why can't the local game shops offer something? I just ...Great write up Matt, really hit the spot. I just found a great game store near Massilion Ohio called THe Keep. The people where just way to friendly and informative, my favorite part was they where ready to play a game right there and then. If I wasn't with my non-gamer friend I would have bought one they had not played yet and busted it open right their and then. I bought a bunch of stuff from them simply because I could take my tim, look through stuff, turn the box over and over, and ask questions from the store owners.

I found it at the end of the trip - or I would have been there for one of their 3 game nights a week.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-34917847100310605592008-09-09T22:33:00.000-07:002008-09-09T22:33:00.000-07:00Tim's Corner, a comic book store in Rock Island, I...Tim's Corner, a comic book store in Rock Island, IL, used to have hot dog rack with this chili-meat sauce that would slow simmer in a crock pot all day plus a small soda fountain. He probably made more off me in dogs and a Dew than he did in comics. I loved coming in there for comics, a game of pinball, and food.Thomas Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17900181727387323579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-20263781286060236472008-09-09T17:44:00.000-07:002008-09-09T17:44:00.000-07:00Spot on as usual, Matt. Anyway I go in with the expectation of smell and dark lit and all the things you ranted about. However, it was none of that. The place was clean, very clean, well laid out; they really made the most of their space. The games were well displayed. The gaming area was in the store, not in storage area and it was clean. It was a delight; so much so, I had to tell them and I even ended up buying a copy of Tomb from them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-84319893743311523092008-09-09T13:36:00.000-07:002008-09-09T13:36:00.000-07:00I would love to see a board game cafe like those d...I would love to see a board game cafe like those described on a certain podcast you may have heard of.

Hey, does that guy in the alley have a copy of TtR Nordic Countries?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-42456377313508185892008-09-08T17:36:00.000-07:002008-09-08T17:36:00.000-07:00The FLGS that I tend to frequent quit giving any t...The FLGS that I tend to frequent quit giving any types of discounts since they were running into financial difficulties and they are starting to not restock items quickly. The store is actually a nice one in the sense that they do offer coffee, drinks and some snacks while playing. I've also seen them mopping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms on a regular basis so that is a big plus. Trying to get them to see that maybe offering some form of discount based on the amount purchased help them and to get them to understand that gamers are impulse buyers seems to be a losing battle. I really do want to support my local stores but they have to give us something we want to support. The fact that there are still people who do not want (or do not know how) to buy books on-line certainly contributes to the audience of B&N. But the main reason people want to go to B&N instead of buying books online is because they can go there, buy a cup of coffee, sit down and enjoy reading. If the same thing can't be done in game store where people can come and play games, I can't think of any reason that I want to visit the store instead of buying everything online.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-19048213386805414032008-09-08T11:59:00.000-07:002008-09-08T11:59:00.000-07:00Darn good rant! The owner is friendly, and the smell isn't too bad, and it's just across the street. Now if he'd sell even a little below MSRP we'd have a deal.Isamoorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17246918125961752266noreply@blogger.com
