The Wire catches on to you if you give it a chance and lingers on forever. This is as real as it gets. Give it a chance and The Wire will probably change your whole perspective on entertainment if not life itself.Maheshnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-45524416971474407532013-02-20T08:14:57.552-08:002013-02-20T08:14:57.552-08:00Omar is comming !!!!!Omar is comming !!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-15465209175819476232013-01-25T09:54:49.254-08:002013-01-25T09:54:49.254-08:00I have already said it under the Copper review, bu...I have already said it under the Copper review, but it bears repeating: Homicide - Life On The Street (based on the book of the creator of The Wire) and The Shield.

Both are amazing shows, with painfully realistic cops and cases.wicenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-6608177453928348062013-01-02T16:45:49.892-08:002013-01-02T16:45:49.892-08:00I watched most of the first season and it never re...I watched most of the first season and it never really grabbed me. That's why seasons 4+5 focus on schools and newspapers.

They also wrote the great book The Corner which was made into an HBO mini-series before the Wire was created. The biggest differences between The Corner and The Wire is that The Corner focuses on several individuals (i.e isn't as sweeping) and is a work of non-fiction. You'll like The Corner if you liked The Wire. Also, they used a lot of the same actors between the two shows, except roles are reversed (cops become junkies!)Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03574116432983045046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-75441664638403308772013-01-01T06:41:51.861-08:002013-01-01T06:41:51.861-08:00Just to add my thoughts, The Wire is just about th...Just to add my thoughts, The Wire is just about the best TV series ever made. There may be the occasional miss-step with the accents every now and again (the occasional English or Irish accent from two of the leads come out every now and again)...but apart from that it is just about perfect TV.

And TV show that can have a cause you to care for characters that should be unlikeable (sympathy for murderous drug dealers?) has to earn some respect.

I could go one. It's more like someone took a five-year slice of time and showed it to us. I can definitely see a case for too mundane.

Still my favorite cop show of all time, and maybe the best TV I've ever seen, but it may not be for everyone, and you should understand what you're getting into.Matt Drakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10293720777403743376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-28976655513070516062012-12-31T18:58:40.521-08:002012-12-31T18:58:40.521-08:00I guess I'll have to go back and try it again:...I guess I'll have to go back and try it again: My brother heavy-sold it a year or so ago, as "the greatest thing since...".

So I tracked down the first season and started working through episodes with my wife. But it never really *grabbed* me. It just seemed to bog down in procedural material, bitching about office politics and take forever to progress. I guess it seemed a bit *too* mundane.
And the pacing was slow. They seemed to telegraph material, and then took episodes to deliver. And I don't mean grand 'mysteries'. I guess I was just losing interest in the initial 'crime', once they revealed parts of it's outcome. At that point I wasn't terribly invested in finding out 'who?' or 'why?'. I just wanted to move on to a series with a little faster pacing. So I parked it.

That's the risk when someone sets expectations extremely high: If it doesn't grab you in the first 5 mins, the expectations backlash can really zap the entire experience.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327484429725532216.post-4832340562824261852012-12-31T16:52:40.227-08:002012-12-31T16:52:40.227-08:00Best TV show nobody's heard of.
